It cost about $2.50 or $3 - somewhere in that range. Not remarkable chocolate but better than some others I have had. With Ritter Sport inches away, I don't know why Choxie is there.

How much were the bars? (I haven't bought Choxie in quite a while.)

I agree with Victoria - when I'm at Target, I'm usually attracted to the excellent selection of Ritter (which will also have an Espresso bar later this year).

Choxie is all about the packaging, which I agree is pretty, but not so much about the contents. Target also carries Ritter Sport, which is a lot better.

Sounds like a slightly softer version of chocolate plastic, which you can make at home pretty easily. That said, I've never thought to play with it...just to decorate with it.

I suppose it's good for the price of general drugstore candy, but few top-notch chocolate producers use beans from Cote d'Ivoire. The beans aren't very high quality under any circumstances

I think two things are going on with single origin chocolates. One thing is that the consumer retail prices are always slow to follow this kind of commodity price increases. If the commodity increases but $1500 per ton, that is the same as $.75 per pound. So for your five-ounce bar, which is only partially cocoa solids, the manufacturing price increase is rather minimal.

However, the cocoa that gets made into single-origin bars is part of the the world cocoa supply, and as such has gone up in price and is now coming down. The supply was diminished because of the trouble in Ivory Coast, so the shortage resulted in higher prices elsewhere.

Not sure that answered your question. Please let me know.

It's still unclear to me how this affects single-origin chocolates, which are almost never sourced from Cote d'Ivoire. I haven't noticed price changes for any of my favorites.
